Since 2009 I have been living back home in North East Pa. a good place to live if you like the seasons, the country and small towns. Up until 2009 I traveled, and lived under the delusion that i wanted NONE of those things. Well, from New York City, to Nantucket, to Boston and then back home again i realized that I started out exactly where i needed to be.
Not long after returning home i ran into a fellow who had also been here there and everywhere before returning home to NEPA. We grew up in the same town, a few years apart, and never met until we both decided home was the place to be in our adulthood. Well, I married that guy this past August and have been happy as a clam since. Granted there are ups and downs and craziness, but this is really my documentation of our meals, hunting, creating, butchering and generally moving forward in this big thing people call life.
in 2007 I attended Art school at Pratt Institute....i learned so much, but it was REALLY expensive so i left and started landscaping in Nantucket, which was BORING in the winter (i.e. Massachusetts, Maine winters = no plants) so i cam home and decided to work small jobs and create small projects while figuring out exactly what i was supposed to do. Several part time jobs later, an etsy shop ( www.etsy.com/shop/HHMHolidays ), hunting trips, children's craft classes, a marriage, many good and bad recipes, and a job in a supermarket meat department, here i am. butcher, artist, cook and wife

I hope to bring little bits of all these elements to this blog and share some of the recipes, foraging, crafts and ideas that happen along the way. For cooking you can look forward to whole food recipe, made as much from scratch as time will allow. I like baking my own bread, and mixing homemade BBQ sauce, but there re certain times when priocess foods slip in. My family's traditional meatloaf can not be topped with anything but brown sugar and Heinz ketchup and Halupki
(polish cabbage rolls) MUST be topped with condense tomato soup. i have tried fighting the system and making these items with fresh tomato or homemade ketchup and they are JUST NOT THE SAME...This is the way the Ciocis ( Polish for Aunts) did it and that's the ways i will do it as well. So while i reach for seasonal vegetables and fresh cut venison as often as i can, don not expect this blog to be completely devoid of canned, pre-made, and otherwise processed products. they happen and sometimes have a purpose.
